The artist known simply as "US Marshall" has a long and tainted history, much of it fiction, some of it fact. Here is an excerpt from and interview Marshall gave to "SPun Out" Magazine earlier this year:
"Electronic music saved my life & filled a gap that could not be filled by anything else, period. I'd be dead or in jail by now if I would not have found a creative outlet for the things I was and still am feeling"
"Dj'ng has become serious for me. It used to be about who could party the hardest & still play well but those days are gone. I want people to remember me & the music I shared with them. The dancefloor is a spiritual place, every bad thing you can think of, every shitty thing that's happened to you can all be washed away with one killer mix. Thats something you can't replace."
The Story(fact and fiction):
It all started late one night in a seedy downtown Saskatoon nightclub called Club Lux, DJ Czech at the helm of a packed room and people going off everywhere. '98 was a big eye opener for him into he world of actual "dj'ng' and he credits Czech with planting the "seed of corruption". Partying was just the tip of the iceberg for him as he was soon bit by the "dj bug" that so many of us get and so few of us pursue with any ambition or passion. He bought his first set of decks off his boss for $500 a piece, set them up in his room, bought vinyl from anyone he could and no one saw him for about 4 months.
Fast forward about 6 months and US Marshall was born. He played numerous parties in and around Saskatoon and finally joining up with his good friend and partner "Old Skool" Shawn Evans to form flychild Inc, one of the premier promoting power houses after the PPM retired and went east. The highlight of this collaboration was "Elysium" featuring none other that DJ Misjah and Adam Starr. "That party not only broke us but bruised a few friendships as well" and with that, Big Parties and flychild Inc parted ways, settling on smaller nights and one offs with some of the best dj's the world has to offer with supporting locals in tow.
DJ US Marshall continued to dj all over the province and branched out nationally with 2 trips to Montreal to open for Lori the Hi-Fi and as a supporting dj on the "Chris Liberator Wedding Tour", both of these being major stepping stones and arguable the highlights so far of his career as a dj. Both of these events shook him to seek legitimacy as both a performer and an artist and he went on rampage re-working his entire record collection and seeking that "saw blade" sound. He found it in progressive house, and there our story takes a twist. For all the haters, non-believers & people who trash "Trance Music", DJ US Marshall has put up with all of it, and to break the stigma of being a "fluffy trance dj" it took him almost quitting altogether to get past it. Never one to be told what to do, he re-tooled his record bag and started branching out into new genres including House, Techno, Tribal and yes, even the dreaded "E" word: Electro.
Currently you can find & hear him playing a mix of progressive, deep, tribal & west coast house, with a few breaks even once in awhile. He graces the Connect stage as one of the regulars of the Connect Tribe and plays one offs and club nights all over Canada. Always new, fresh and exciting, no one hunts for new music harder or has a knack for finding "that track" like he does & it is something he prides himself on, "Dj'ng has become serious for me. It used to be about who could drink the most and still play well but those days are gone. I want people to remember me & the music I shared with them". I think all of us are in for a pretty wild ride. Expect nothing less than the best when this "old guy" comes to your town, cause he expects nothing but the same from himself.
Influences Local, International & Positional: My Father, Deko-ze, Jeff Galaxy, Black and Blue Parties, Ireland, Dr J, Motley Crue, William Blake (poet), Jon Digweed, Sasha, Lori Ward, The Shamen, Fetish Parties, Jimi Hendrix(you can listen to Jimi but ya gotta HEAR it), Elvis, Dj Brian, Dave Aude, Doggy Style, Taylor, Christopher Lawrence, The Liberator crew, Czech and the list goes(and grows) on........
